Not with public funds. Per Colorado educational funding laws, students cannot be taking public funds for more than one program at a time.
However, we'd be happy to talk with you and explore alternatives. You can be enrolled in more than one enrichment program as long as you only take public funding for ONE of those programs!
This program lasts for 36 weeks and is 192 hours total. Suggested High School credit is 1.0 credits.
We recommend bringing a waterbottle, marked with your child's full name, and a snack. Please make sure they eat breakfast/lunch before coming to class!
You're welcome to bring your own safety glasses or ear protection, but we have some to borrow.
Full-day students: please bring a lunch! We have a microwave and fridge available.
We'll be around sparks, hot metal, and spinning tools, so it's very important to dress correctly!
Please wear cotton clothing that can get dirty and closed-toe shoes. We recommend marking any jackets with student names.
Yes: Cotton tee or natural fiber shirt, jeans or cotton pants, closed-toe shoes, long hair tied back
No: Synthetics (they melt!) and most athletic clothing, open-toed shoes, long hair in face, loose jewelry
Online resources will vary depending on course (i.e. Digital Art will use MANY more platforms than Decorative Ironwork). But as this is a hybrid program (2 hours online, 3 hours in-person), there are two tools that will apply to every class:
1. Zoom | We will be meeting as a class online once a week via Zoom. Most class assignments can be completed during this time. This will not have to be downloaded ahead of time.
2. Canvas LMS | This online platform will have all online in-class activities in easy-to-navigate modules! You'll also find each week's Zoom login link here.
Our staff are very experienced with all types of special needs. We'd love to know how to best help your child succeed this year. Contact admin@kilroysworkshophse.com, and we can schedule a call or meeting, too!
About 1/3 of our student body is diagnosed ADHD, as well as many of our staff. So if your child is an active learner, welcome to the club! :)
Since each week progressively builds on previous learning, we ask families to make every effort to attend both the online and in-person sessions. However, we understand that isn't always possible. Contact us to find a time to makeup your class!
Each student needs 90 hours per semester.
In the case of inclement weather, closures and delays will be posted to this website, Kilroy's socials, and sent out via email and app notification by 6am. Parents/guardians are responsible for checking these notifications and acting accordingly. We have some snow day cushion built into the schedule, but will offer makeup classes for most situations.
It's not uncommon for some families to come from 3+ hours away to class, where the weather is often much different. If weather is not safe where you are, STAY HOME. We'll get you a makeup day!
We ask that parents/guardians come in with their student so we can meet you/show you the check-in process. You'll have the option to stay for a parent tour and safety briefing, too!
Parents/guardians are welcome to come with their child(ren) and are able to stay in designated spaces as needed. We have wifi and tables!
We do half-day as the default, but offer full-day at no extra cost with instructor recommendation. We restrict this because of safety - a tired kid in-shop is not safe for themself or others. Responsibility and stamina are VERY important to safety in a shop environment. For students who want to participate for a full-day, we'd recommend the following:
1. Over the first few weeks/months, consistently show your instructor a high level of responsibility, stewardship, and the physical stamina needed for a full-day environment. Let them know you're interested in a full-day! Instructors will recommend full-day privileges once they see consistent responsibility, stewardship, and the physical stamina needed to sustain a 9-3:30 day.
2. Full-day is a privilege that can be both earned and lost. Our instructors have high expectations BUT are very reasonable - show you can handle it, and we'll open full-day privileges! Online learning sessions are optional for full-day students.
